The Geothermal Resources Council (GRC) Geothermal Library contains over 40,000 records on all aspects of geothermal energy, including exploration, reservoir engineering, power plant design and operation, direct use, geothermal heat pumps, regulatory issues, energy policy, energy markets, news briefs, and more. Now includes all 212 Transactions papers from the 2017 GRC Annual Meeting.



Latin America: Geothermal Resources Council Office Opens in Colombia - The Geothermal Resources Council (GRC) has created a representative office in Latin America (GRC-LATAM). A member of the GRC, Dewhurst Group, LLC (DG) will host the regional headquarters from their office in Bogota, Colombia.

Netherlands: Well Test at Trias Westland Geothermal Project Scheduled for Mid-February - The Trias Westland drilling project at Naaldwijk, in the Netherlands, has reached a depth of approximately 3,600 meters.

Finance: Geothermal Energy Can Provide Very Competitive Electricity - IRENA - Geothermal electricity generation is a mature, baseload generation technology that can provide very competitive electricity where high quality resources are well-defined. The LCOE of conventional geothermal power varies from USD 0.04/kWh to around USD 0.13/kWh for recent projects.

Kenya: GDC Confirms 2 Companies Set to Break Ground for Menengai Geothermal Project in March - Quantum East Africa Power Limited will be breaking ground for the first 35 MW power plant followed by Sosian Menengai Geothermal Power Limited (SMGPL).

Guatemala: Flow Tests to Begin at Mita Geothermal Project - Bluestone's Board of Directors has approved a flow test program to further test select geothermal wells with the goal of upgrading the confidence level of the known geothermal reservoir. The data collected will provide the basis for the development strategy going forward.

USA, Nevada: BLM Approves 48 MW Ormat Phase III Expansion of McGinness Hills Geothermal Plant - The Decision Record (DR) allows operations to begin at the Phase III project site.

Bosnia and Herzegovina: Invitation to Consult on Development of Geothermal Energy and other Renewable Energy Resources - The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) seeks a professional service provider for development of Study on Renewable Energy Sources with Focus on Biomass, Geothermal Energy and Concentrated Solar Power in BiH.

United Kingdom: "The consequences of developing a substantial part of the UK’s geothermal resource are profound" - The baseload heating that could be supplied from low enthalpy geothermal energy would cause a dramatic fall in the UK’s emissions of greenhouse gases....

Ethiopia: Investment Group Doubles Funding Commitment to Corbetti Geothermal Power Project - InfraCo Africa increases its commitment to Ethiopia’s first private geothermal project to US$30 million.

Greece: Island of Santorini Studying Feasibility of 5 MW Geothermal Power Plant - For geothermal, the next step will be to conduct surface surveys and drilling to investigate the geothermal potential of the island.

Science & Technology: New Study Finds Geothermal Heat at Depth in Western USA - A research team led by Colorado State University has mapped the temperature and viscosity of the lower crust for the first time and found that, under much of the western United States, the layer is hot enough to be near its initial melting point and, therefore, quite runny.
